How to Disinfect Your Kid’s Toys

Children are very susceptible to colds and sicknesses because their immune systems aren’t as built up as an adults but also because of the fact that they find themselves around germy situations often: toys that other kids have used without washing their hands, germs hiding in stuffed animals, putting things into their mouths often, playing with sick children.  You can cut down on the germ factor by properly disinfecting your children’s toys, but other than quarantining them from other kids, there will always be SOME germ potential.

For small toddlers, cleaning toys everyday is important because young kids love to put everything into their mouths.  This is especially important if more than one child is using the toys.  Hard toys that are small enough can be put into the dishwasher because the heat and disinfecting that cleans your plates safely can also rid those toys of germs.

Mild soap and water can be used for a quick clean up, with a soft bristled brush.  To truly disinfect, soak toys in a solution of one tablespoon of bleach in a gallon of water.  The key is to rinse off extremely well because there can be no chemical residue!

For soft toys such as teddy bears, put them into the washer and dryer.  They will come out clean and plush!  Your child will love to cuddle up with a warm clean friend and you can rest assured that they aren’t cuddling up to something filthy.

Be aware of which chemicals you are using in addition to the bleach because the wrong mix can produce toxic fumes.  Clean well and often for your child’s health!
