How to Make Your Own Window Cleaner (and more…)
Nothing beautifies a room quite like shining, clean glass windows and the dream of perfectly pristine glass is often dashed with the appearance of unsightly streaks. Who wants to wipe away dust and grime only to end up with equally as annoying streaks? Choosing the right glass cleaner is important because it will be the deciding point between having crystal clear windows and smudged ones. Though lots of products say that they will offer streak free protection, only some live up to their own hype. Here are streak-fighting solutions:
1. Home-made do-it-yourself cleaner.
Many ordinary household goods can combine to create all types of concoctions for around the house. Two quick recipes are as follows:
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup ammonia
1/2 cup of isopropyl rubbing alcohol
Combine those in a spray bottle and voila, your own handy made cleaning solution.
2. Windex Original Glass Cleaner
This tried and true favorite is very popular for good reason. Ammonia-D is the super ingredient in the mixture, allowing the product to clean almost any surface and especially glass. Plastic, aluminum, tile, mirrors, and even marble can all be gussied up with a spray of this cleaner. Using newspaper helps to achieve a streak-free shine.
3. Zep Streak-Free Glass Cleaner with Trigger Spray
A perk of using this spray is that it dries quickly, imparts shine, and best of all, doesn’t streak! Dust and grime are no match for this cleaner.
A few drops of dish detergent mixed into a bucket of clean water will make a good mix for wiping down glass surfaces. A cup of vinegar or a capful of ammonia can make a great substitute for the dish detergent if you choose to use that instead. Quickly drying the glass will be key here. Streaks are created by not drying the glass quickly enough, allowing whatever spray solution was used to dry on the surface. If you weren’t speedy enough to dry it with a towel before it dried on its own, simply re-apply the solution and move quickly! Your sun-filled room and shiny glasses will be your glowing reward.
