What Are The Messiest Pets?
Animal companions are a great joy to many people; pets are some of the closest friends and playmates for a large segment of the world’s population. From cats to pigs to monkeys to fish, many varieties of animals have made their way to being the pets of humans. Which ones are the messiest to have around though? Keeping a clean abode with these creatures around may prove to be a daunting task!
1. Birds.
They love to hurl their food around when eating, feathers float all over, and they can’t be house trained so they leave their droppings and waste wherever they may be. At least with a parrot you get a talking friend, but beware the mess!
2. Monkeys/Chimps.
They need to wear pampers and can be known to throw their poop around. They can be partially potty trained but as they get older they forget/forgo that training! As well, when bored, they have been known to be destructive to furniture and the house for attention.
3. Dogs.
They love to dig in the yard, play outside, mess with their own poop, rub their butts on the carpet, and depending on the breed, can take a while to become house trained. Dogs can get into all types of antics and dirty activities, so it’s important to pay close attention to them.
4. Ferrets.
These curious critters are messy because they like to get into everything and investigate! Not to mention, they need a lot of attention, so they like to make a mess if they aren’t feeling loved so only those who have a lot of time to care for a ferret should get one. They relieve themselves often, so keeping a clean cage can be a bit of a chore. Ferrets also have a natural musky scent which can be off-putting to some and perfectly fine to others.
5. Sugar Gliders.
While cute, sugar gliders can be quite messy! They aren’t really able to be litter trained and like to relieve themselves often, so clean up is ongoing. As well, they can sometimes like to play with their fecal matter, throwing it and such. Their smell can also be distinct and strong like a ferrets, so take that into consideration. They will mark their cages and other areas with urine and scent markers. Not for the squeamish, their diet consists of not only dry foods and pellets but grubs and bugs as well! So those who don’t want to be around squishy fat grubs need not purchase one.
Having a pet can be one of the greatest, most fun undertakings in life, but beware the stinky messy ones! Take good care of whatever animal that you decide to own and they will be your loyal friends to the end.
